3. Knowledge to use the tools
All employees are trained to use the tools and are encouraged to increase their knowledge of machining. One incentive for employees to increase their knowledge is a $1,000 per year tuition reimbursement for approved courses.
4. Time to do the job
Management collaborates with employees to insure that enough time is allocated to complete the given job.
5. Effort expended to do the job
Maximizing effort starts by careful selection of employees. Everyone at Five Star has an aptitude for and love of machining. Five Star provides a safe, clean work environment and makes sure that effort is recognized and rewarded.
In the rare instance that we have an issue with quality, we know that one or more of the above components must be addressed. The Five Stars in our name stand for the Five Components of Quality.

Five Star Engineering
Our quality is second to none, our deliveries are on time every time and our prices are competitive with anyone in the world, anywhere in the world.
While currently not third-party registered, Five Star recognizes the importance of and uses the eight quality management principles set forth in ISO 9001:2008. We also follow the principles of the 5S system of Lean Manufacturing.
However, the high level of quality that we achieve is primarily due to a quality system that is unique to Five Star. It was developed by Steve Boehm, the founder of Five Star. He identified that there are just Five Components that determine the Quality of any job.
The Five Components of Quality are:
1. Definition of the job
This is usually in the form of a drawing from our customer. We work with the customer to make sure that we understand all of the requirements set forth on the drawing. We use this information to develop our processes.
2. Tools to do the job
We have state-of-the-art tools including Mastercam for our CAD/CAM system and Haas machine tools. We are continually looking for new tools to help us achieve ever higher levels of quality.
